Arapahoe/Douglas Works
Arapahoe/Douglas Works! will move to Centennial on July 26.
Local workforce center’s main office lands at new Lima Plaza campus.
Greenwood Village, Colo. – The Arapahoe/Douglas Works! Workforce Center will move its main office in July from Greenwood Village to the new Arapahoe County Lima Plaza campus in Centennial.
The workforce center’s main office will be closed on Friday, July 22 and Monday, July 25 to complete the move. It will reopen to the public on July 26 at its new location at 6974 South Lima Street, Centennial, CO, 80111. The satellite offices in Castle Rock and at Community College of Aurora at Lowry will remain open during and after the move.
Arapahoe/Douglas Works provides no-cost employment assistance services to metro-area job-seekers and businesses. The workforce center’s new location will boast the same popular features that supported customers in the past, such as a Resource Center with computers, copiers and fax machines, Business and Assessment Center where customers can take skills and personality assessments at no cost and a Career Village for employers to host hiring events and interviews. It will also have customized resource centers for youth and mature workers.
New features at the Lima Plaza location will include more classrooms for job-search and skills workshops and orientations, ample parking for customers and employees, free wireless internet and a small area with café-style seating and coffee vending machine.
“Relocating to Centennial will place Arapahoe/Douglas Works! at the center of its target region for both Arapahoe and Douglas counties,” said Arapahoe County Commissioner Frank Wedding. “The new location will allow the workforce center to offer more of the same quality services in a larger space, and give customers the added benefit of accessing consolidated county services at one central campus.”
Arapahoe/Douglas Works! is the first County office to occupy the Lima Plaza campus, which was purchased by Arapahoe County in April 2011 for $4.5 million. The eight-building campus, located east of I-25 on Lima Street just two blocks south of Arapahoe Road, will also be the new home to the Public Works and Development Department, Clerk and Recorder’s Southeast Motor Vehicle Office, Judicial Services programs and the Open Spaces Program later this fall. Currently, these County services are located in four separate locations in Greenwood Village and Centennial.
Arapahoe/Douglas Works departs from its location at the CoBank Center in Greenwood Village after three years. The workforce center has experienced a 25% average increase in daily customer visits to this location since April of 2008 due to the economic recession. Last year, more than 50,000 people visited the workforce center and there are more than 20,000 monthly web visits to its web site at www.adworks.org.
“The metro area is still experiencing very slow job creation, and job-seekers are finding it takes longer to find employment,” said Joe Barela, Division Manager for Arapahoe/Douglas Works! “The workforce center is a secret weapon for anyone who is unemployed and underemployed to network, use current technology and find resources that can shorten a job search and bolster employability.”
The Lima Plaza campus is conveniently located near public transit, retail and restaurants. To get to Arapahoe/Douglas Works! starting on July 26:
• By public transportation: Take RTD LightRail to Arapahoe at Village Center Station. Take RTD Bus 66 eastbound and get off at South Lima Street.
• By car: Exit I-25 at Arapahoe Road and drive east. Turn right on South Lima Street.
